Imaculada and her husband Danilo, run a true family endeavour. They have dedicated the last 50 years to growing coffee and refining their craft in the region of Cerrado Mineiro, Brazil’s first Denomination of Origin for coffee. Despite the scale of their enterprise, they preserve almost a third of their land as part of their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. This balance between their production and conservation work ensures wildlife can thrive in its natural habitat and protect the region’s biodiversity.

Cerrado Mineiro sits in the northwest of Minas Gerais, at an altitude of around 800 too 1,300 metres above sea level. It was Brazil’s first region to receive a Denomination of Origin for coffee. 

The climate there runs on two distinct seasons, a hot, wet summer for flowering and fruit development, and a long dry winter for harvest. The dry weather lets cherries dry evenly on the farm, which is why the region is known for natural-process coffees.
